Improve Your Life by Changing Your Thinking

I’m going to be honest right now. If your life sucks, you can improve your life by changing the way you think. Is it really that simple? Yes, it’s that simple but it’s not always easy to do. For many of us, we have had ‘stinkin’ thinkin’ for so many years that it will take some time before we can turn our thinking around to be more positive and more accepting of ourselves.

When you have negative thinking, practically everything in the world sucks, everyone and everything is against you and preventing you from being successful and happy, and you don’t have much hope, if any, for a better future. You’re just going through the routine of waking up, working, eating, watching TV and sleeping. It’s pretty much just a very slow death.

If you’re tired of living this way and you really do want to be more positive and improve your life, then there are definitely action steps you can take to change the way you think and live a more fulfilled, happy life. The changes won’t happen overnight. There will be starts and stops along the way. The most important thing you can do is to NEVER give up on improving your life. Even if there are setbacks every now and then, keep moving forward and taking action. That is the only way you will succeed.

Below are some tips to change the way you think:

Challenges and setbacks are opportunities. Everyone experiences challenges, mistakes and setbacks. That’s just life. But how you react to those challenges determines whether you succeed in life or not. People who have happy, fulfilling lives don’t see challenges and setbacks as failures. They see them as opportunities. They learn from the setbacks and mistakes. They now know what they need to do in order to keep moving forward in whatever they want to do.

People who have negative thinking see these same challenges, setbacks and mistakes as failures.  They blame other people or circumstances for not getting what they want in life instead of taking responsibility for their own lives. They hit an obstacle and they give up, thinking that whatever they wanted in life wasn’t meant for them. They don’t pick themselves up and start again, take a different action and learn from their challenges.

If you run into an obstacle on your way to improving your life, DON’T QUIT! Learn from your mistakes and setbacks and keep taking action. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from going after what you want in life.

Achieving goals and having success in life takes time. There is no such thing as an overnight success. Most people just see the end result of someone who has a multi-million dollar business, at the top of their game in football, baseball or basketball, or lost 100 pounds to be at their ideal body weight. What people don’t see however are the years of hard work and determination it took to get them to where they’re at now.

Whatever you’re trying to accomplish in life, whether it’s getting a promotion, starting a business, losing weight, finding your ideal mate, overcoming social anxiety, etc, it will take time to achieve success in these areas. Don’t try to rush the process and don’t become discouraged if you don’t see results right away. Usually you have to keep working at your goals for some time before you start to see just a glimpse of progress. Your progress will grow little by little every day until one day, it will explode and you’ll be at the finish line of your goal.

Go out and experience life. Sometimes people sit around waiting for the perfect time to come before they engage in some type of activity or learn something new. If you always wanted to learn a new language, take a language course at your local community college. Always wanted to learn how to draw or paint? Take an art class. Attend your city or community council meetings. Volunteer. Go to different museums, the movies, different parks. Go on a hike or ride a bike. Do something you always wanted to do or just do something different to break yourself out of your normal routine.

Look forward to your future. Get excited about what your future will be like one year from now, five years or ten. When you change your thinking to be more positive, there is so much more potential for you to be successful in whatever goals you have for yourself. There are so many good things just waiting to happen for you. Look forward to that near-future so you won’t be miserable in your present.

Treat yourself with respect. Don’t let other people walk all over you. Don’t put yourself down either. When people see that you don’t respect yourself, then they won’t respect you either. If someone compliments you, thank them. Don’t act like you don’t deserve it. You DO deserve the compliment. You can also have respect for yourself by dressing and acting as if you were already successful in every area of your life.

People who have self-respect have confidence in their abilities, they walk straight and taller. They don’t look like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders. They look others in the eye and treat others with respect, just as they EXPECT to be treated also.

Expect to be treated with respect. Expect good things to come your way. Expect your near-future to be a more fulfilling, happy life. Stop waiting for the sky to fall so you can go back to your negative thinking, unhappy life. Expect happiness and success and you’ll receive them more often than you do right now. Yes, you really can improve your life by changing your thinking to a more positive outlook.
