How To Take Back Control of Your Life

Does it feel like your life is spinning out of control? That life isn’t going your way? The negative emotions and thoughts seem to have control over you and you can’t seem to make the necessary changes you need to make in order to improve your life.

Here are some tips to take back control of your life:

  1. Be Assertive. Sometimes we allow other people to walk all over us. We say “Yes” to them when we really need to say “No” more often. It’s not being selfish. If you really don’t want to do something or you just don’t have the time or resources to do something for someone, then you need to make that clear to them.
  2. No More Excuses. We make excuses in order to get out of doing what we know we need to do like exercising, starting a business, asking for a raise, looking for a new job, going to that party you were invited to, achieving your goals, etc. These types of excuses are just the fear of failing. It’s almost automatic to make excuses, but you must resist this urge and ACT on what you need to do.
  3. Let Go of Expectations. We have expectations about ourselves and about others. We also have expectations about how certain situations should play out in our lives. If you let go of expectations, you won’t be disappointed when others let you down, when circumstances don’t turn out the way you thought they would, and when you make mistakes.
  4. Strengths and Weaknesses. Take some time and write down your 10 greatest strengths and weaknesses. Celebrate your strengths and come up with ways to turn your weaknesses into strengths.
  5. Do the Most Important Things First. Many people will procrastinate and leave the most important or difficult tasks for later on. Complete these tasks first so you don’t have to waste time worrying about them. You’ll feel a sense of relief that you got the highest priority tasks done and out of the way.
  6. Pick Just One Area in Your Life That You Want Improved. What is the one area in your life that once improved will have the greatest impact on your life? Concentrate your focus on achieving success in this area.
  7. Take Consistent Action. This is the one tip I repeat a lot on my site. Taking consistent action sets you apart from those people who are unsuccessful in certain areas of their lives. They either don’t take any action or they take action one time, hit an obstacle and then quit.

These tips should help you take back control of your life. The world is waiting for you to take action and reclaim control. Start today by just doing one tip and then build on the tips one day at a time.
